Your writing is incredible, and Senegal sounds amazing too. Reading your blog makes a gap year sound incredibly appealing! I’m so glad that you seemed to have adjusted to life abroad, but we miss you here. Get in touch if you can, and best of luck with your next few weeks!

Hey, I had a wonderful surprise today. Seeing your college application story in the NY Times! And what a great story it was. Hard to know how you summarize so much so concisely. Must be the mark of a good writer!

It is back in existence! The first class begins next year with only 25 people whose tuition will be paid. Apply!
I live in the town of Yellow Springs and we are Antioch
supporters.
Enjoy your year!

I’m just having a great time peeking into the windows of your journey. Your choices of subject and insights are wonderful.
I hope the next phase will be just as amazing for you. I look forward to reading about it!

I like very much that your blog conveys both the positive and somewhat negative feelings that come with adjusting to another culture. You learn much more when you see – and accept – the good as well as the unfortunate. As I have never been to Senegal, I can rely only on what you have written when I assume that the Senegalese men you encounter are a (significantly) more boisterous form of the men here in Mexico. While Monterrey is not very different from the US in terms o its social and economic development, there is something to be said for the leering eyes that follow me wherever I go. They say, “who’s that girl? American?” It is very hard to get used to when you’re accustomed to reserved American men – and you realized just how reserved they really are! Try to think of it as appreciation instead of a threat to your chastity; they don’t mean any harm!
