Thank you so much for sharing this. What strikes me is that you really have loved and are loved by people all over the world. Your big heart is enough to really bond to people wherever you are. That is a special gift.
I also appreciate seeing the beach in these pictures and remember your experience at Cannon Beach Oregon, USA where you were introduced to the Pacific Ocean. You and Eli both were not at all sure the water was warm enough to survive – and this after a couple of years in Norway!
And now we have the count down to your return to your natural family. Be sure to thank them from all of us for their sharing of you to the rest of the world.
Lovingly,

Comment on Six Months India – Workaholics and Arranged Marriages by Ernest Rodriguez https://www.globalcitizenyear.org/updates/six-months-india-workaholics-and-arranged-marriages/#comment-528669 Thu, 23 Apr 2020 02:01:11 +0000 http://archive.globalcitizenyear.org/?p=42938#comment-528669 I love this young man’s writing. There is such a pathos about his choice of words and phrases. I am moved to believe that he looks upon the world and hears an echo of melancholy in its inhabitants. The way Levin presents his observations is not judgmental, it does not seem to have a whisper of negativity, his observations are written as a matter of fact, an understanding and acceptance that things in India are just as they are. I’m reminded of a scene in the movie Gandhi where he goes to a village whose indigo farmers are starving because the British won’t accept their crops as partial payment any longer. Gandhi stands at the doorway and looks out at the crowd, thousands of people and he says, “What we can do… we will try to do.” Levin seems to have taken a similar approach to his time in India, What he could do… he tried to do and for that, he has earned my respect.

Nicely done in this piece. I especially like this sentence: Despite being named after Maharashtrian resistance fighter Lahuji Salve, things at the school rarely go heroically. –

You’ve given a nice insight into the ENORMITY of the task ahead for the educational system and the students in India. I truly hope that upon some isolation and reflection time you are able to mine the experience for as much as can possibly learn from it.

You are a gifted and extraordinary young man, I await great things from your life.

Spring is almost here!

As I walk around my garden I observe delicate, blooming snow drops, hyacinth, daffodils and forsythia starting to emerge. Birds are chirping, splashing in the bird bath.

The green buds of perennials reaching for the sunlight in our rock garden are accompanied by two seventeen inch snakes sunning on a rock. I’ll try to remember to be careful while weeding in that corner!
This is my favorite time of the year, when the earth renews itself with green beauty. I find it so energizing.

Your corner of the world sounds so vastly different, yet it has its own beauty and colors and culture which we are so anxious to hear about when you return soon. For sure it will be difficult to leave your new family and friends in Senegal.
You have been blessed these past months to live this experience and it most assuredly will affect how you continue your life’s journey. We are so very proud of you and we will be watching and supporting where your journey will take you. See you soon.

Love you Katie, Aunt Dorothy
