The hustle slows down and the moments are longer. Being present perhaps becomes more focused on details that were there but hidden in the hustle. New insights emerge as a gift.

Thank you for your nice email and thoughts, Grandpa. I listen to NPR each morning while here and think about the current state of affairs back home often. Feeling the immediate impact of the manifestations and unrest in Ecuador has made me realize how sheltered I was from the impact of many crises in the states. It’s been a long week for Ecuador and for my friends and family here, but we’re keeping on. Lots of love, Sadie

This situation seems scary to me, but I am so happy you are making the best of a new and unconventional situation. Your writing makes me so happy and I am glad that you see so much beauty where you live. Love you so so much <3

Love,

Too many issues are being ignored, policies are being implemented that harm the poor, the immigrant, the refugee, the sick while attention is focused on the misdeeds of our president. I identify with the spaces you have for self-reflection and observation in some of the long sailing passages I’ve experienced. In those, language was not a barrier and it was an opportunity to relate and share with other crew members. You are discovering how much resilience you have to adapt to whatever your circumstances may be. That’s a discovery of your own inner strength. Love, Grandpa
